Urban Graffiti

In a country where young people can’t express themselves freely, a culture of underground movements flourishes. Iran is no different. Underground music, parties, concerts, and art are widespread especially in Urban areas like Tehran. Graffiti is another form of these types of self-expression.

In Iran there is a history of graffiti as a form of anti-regime movements. In 1979 revolutionaries would put anti-Shah slogans on the walls. Since 2009 protests, you see anti-Islamic regime graffiti on the walls. It’s a way to tell the government that the green movement is still alive.

I blogged about the graffiti for peace a while ago. Now recently “the Streets Against the War” competition took place in Turkey. Video below.
