Life of a Female Welder in Iran
Welding has long been considered to be a man’s job but based on the Welding Journal more women are becoming welders. Many believe that women possess the characteristis that make up a good welder, including a steady hand and a meticulous eye. In the United States, in 2006, about 6% of welders were female, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
It reminds me of the movie Flashdance which I first saw in Iran. It was inspired by the real life story of Maureen Marder, who was a welder by day and dancer by night.
The below documentary shows the life of a female welder in Iran, Leyla Golchin. A woman welder is pretty unusual in Iran but it’s good to see that it does happen. Its praiseworthy that Leyla is breaking the boundaries of tradition and a male dominated world. Leyla, please remember, you have a lot to be proud of.
