Angrier than before?

After Haleh Sahabi’s death, who was killed during her father’s funeral, people came out on rooftops to cry “Allah-o Akbar” but even then the chants seemed to have been weaker, showing a disillusionment spreading across the country.

To understand this, one has to understand the Iranian mentality. What happened to Haleh was a gross violation of moral principles that the Iranians traditionally hold dear. Even conservative Iranians feel that Haleh’s treatment was worst than what Yazid, the loathed 7th-century murderer of Imam Hussein, did. Yazid even spared Imam Hussein’s sister. As Tehran Bureau reports, one man says that “The worst thing in the world is hitting a woman. The other is attacking people at a funeral and not respecting a dead body.”

People are planning to come out to demonstrate on June 12, and this time they are angrier than before. It is going to become increasingly difficult to remain nonviolent.
